I would like to say that I never install prank apps. However that would be a lie, since I did install this one. I honestly don't care about such things, but at least I got to sample this "genre" so to speak. Camera Ghost Detector Prank (that's a mouthful) is supposed to insert specter-like apparitions in view while filming with the device camera.

Now if this is actually supposed to be used for pranks, I find it rather unconvincing to say the least. Good digital pranks need to be inconspicuous. A hidden process here, a screen emulator there, stuff like that. Camera Ghost Detector Prank is nothing like that.

Firstly, the biggest credibility obstacle that Camera Ghost Detector Prank App has is that it only works by opening the app itself. So unless you approach your victims with the app and camera turned on, nobody would actually believe you. Now on the other hand, if this app would embed itself into or just mimic the standard camera app, the experience would actually feel more genuine.

However, that is not the only part where Camera Scary Ghost Detector Prank App fails. The business logic here goes like this. After the camera is enabled the app displays a radar-like red circle on your screen, suggesting that it's searching for something. After a few seconds it reads "Ghost detected" (or something similar) and begins displaying a seizure inducing strobe routine. The surviving victims then get to look through the camera display again, allegedly seeing the apparition.

After going through this annoying process three times, enhanced by the long unskippable ads, I have failed to notice anything paranormal within the camera view pane. Perhaps Camera Scary Ghost Detector Funny Prank App is not a prank app at all. Here's my theory: The app requires internet connection and the location service to be up and running. Maybe it does actually detect paranormal activity. This would make sense, as there is nothing paranormal happening where I live, and in turn this lack of excitement is reflected in this app.

Conclusion

Camera Scary Ghost Detector Funny Game Prank App disappointed me greatly. Annoying strobe flashes, long unskippable ads and the lack of any ghost in my personal experience, has convinced me to never check these types of apps again. It's truly sad.
